Philadelphia’s Free Library hosted its Maker Celebration on Saturday, the 17th, drawing youth, mentors, and community partners together for a showcase of creativity and innovation. The event, held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., featured final presentations from the Connected Messages project, where teens and children revealed interactive murals they had spent weeks designing.
Participants and visitors explored a wide range of activities, from a pop-up photo booth by the Village of Arts and Humanities Photography Interns to claymation labs by The Clay Studio, another DML Project:Connect winner. Maker Ed programs across multiple library branches also presented projects, while groups like Girls Rock Philly and Spiral Q Puppet Theater added sound experiments and wearable art to the mix.
Youth from neighborhood libraries including Lillian Marrero, Busleton, Tacony, and the Central Library’s Philbrick Hall Teen Center shared their own creative projects, underscoring the event’s emphasis on accessibility and collaboration.
Food from Little Baby’s Ice Cream and Pizza Brain rounded out the day, giving the festival a celebratory atmosphere.
Organizers said the Maker Celebration highlighted the potential of libraries as community hubs for learning and creativity, blending art, technology, and youth-driven innovation.
